Epidemiology

The West Virginia Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program (IDEP) manages potential communicable disease threats to the public's health by providing technical assistance, conducting investigations, and education and prevention programs

There are seven regional epidemiologists in West Virginia, and eight in the Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Program (IDEP) in Charleston. Positions in Charleston include IDEP director, vaccine preventable coordinator, food borne coordinator, hepatitis coordinator, zoonotic disease coordinator (also called State Health Veterinarian), zoonotic disease epidemiologist, physician specialist, and bioterrorism coordinator

Visit the IDEP Web site for an A to Z listing of diseases, their causes, symptoms, and steps that can be taken to avoid contracting and/or spreading the disease. Fact sheets on all reportable diseases and bioterrorism agents are also available. Link to IDEP site: http://www.wvidep.org
